FAQs

faq-01

What is an “Initial Consultation” with Happy Belly Health?

An initial consultation is where we discuss your history, your symptoms, look at your lab work and food journal, medications and supplements, and look for the puzzle pieces that can be missing for your unique body to enjoy optimal health.

I come to our meeting ready to ask you questions and share insights. This is a highly individualized conversation.

While the focus is on investigation rather than solution, you’ll leave with a clearer understanding of where there are opportunities for you and a few “low hanging fruit” items you can start working on right away.

The underlying root causes are something that won’t get solved in one session, but we will absolutely come up with the plan and lay down the very important foundation to help you get there.

Having a healthy and efficient running body is possible for you. Sometimes this is just a few tweaks and sometimes it comes slower and takes time. In the end, persistence, patience, and 100% honest effort are what get you to your goals and what keep you enjoying the results for life.

What to expect:
  • My thorough planning and preparation for your session
  • Approximately 1 hour of consulting via phone, Skype, or FaceTime
  • A full set of follow-up notes
  • A plan for continued support if that makes sense for you
  • Investment is $295

Can I have an in person meeting?

We’re virtual and conveniently located in the comfort of your own home.

Do I have to have a chat or Initial Consultation to get started with a program?

You can get started on your Curb Your Cravings (CYC) program right away. However, if you are interested in different health coaching options, then an Initial Consultation is necessary. Some super motivated clients start the CYC program while they’re waiting for a consultation.

I don’t have recent lab work. Should I get labs done before the meeting?

We prefer to use any tests you’ve already had in the last year or two. If you don’t have them, we can still meet.

Is a 15 minute chat the same as an Initial Consultation?

A 15 min chat is a brief free phone meeting where we answer any questions you might have about our programs.

How long do I have to wait for an appointment?

We book up fast! We suggest bypassing the 15 minute chat and do an Initial Consultation instead. 15 minute chats are currently booking out at about 3 weeks. The wait for an Initial Consultation is generally 4 to 6 weeks.

What if I can’t wait that long? Do you have someone else I can meet?

We have other health coaches on our staff, but clients must meet with Shanti, our lead coach first.

Do you accept insurance?

Clients have been able to use their HSA or FSA dollars towards our services, but we don’t take insurance.

What is the best way to lose weight?

Slow enough to integrate changes seamlessly so new habits are part of how you live and who you are. We strongly discourage doing anything that you can’t or don’t want to sustain. Weight loss happens as we start prioritizing our health, enjoying a more balanced life, and eating real food. When we learn to listen to our bodies and respect their needs, we can lose weight in a permanent way.

Is sugar bad? Are carbs bad? Is fat bad?

Nutrient-dense food is what our body craves and needs for sustenance. Empty calories, or foods that have little to no nutritional value like sugar and processed and refined carbohydrates, might be a special indulgence once in a while, but often cause an imbalance to our system. This results in unwanted weight gain, digestive upset, inflammation, migraines, and in the long run, disease. Fat, from natural sources, is an essential nutrient that helps us be healthy and prevent disease. Not enough fat causes our bodies to “shut down.” But toxic fats create inflammation and disease in our bodies. I can help teach you the difference between good and bad fats.

What are the best foods for weight loss?

A variety of nutrient dense whole foods plus more daily life enjoyment.

How can I get rid of food cravings?

Cravings are our body’s natural way of communicating imbalance. This is a good reason why we should eat a varied diet. However, cravings for foods that offer no nutritional value — like sugar and flour — are signs of our body’s dependency on those things. Sugar and flour quickly can become an addictive substance like caffeine, which can lead to a beast of a problem. Working together, we’ll address food cravings by rebalancing the system and respecting what are body truly needs. Want to learn how to stop food cravings? Join us!

Do you help with hormonal imbalances in women and men?

Yes! Our hormones play a beautiful symphony for us when they are in balance. However, when there is an imbalance like during menopause or in someone with PCOS, we will feel like we’re swimming upstream. Men suffer from hormone imbalance, as well. Having an enlarged prostate is an example of this.

I think I have food intolerances? Do you help with that?

Yes. Food sensitivities create a lot of inflammation or even just low-grade inflammation and make weight loss really challenging. This also will impair your immune system. Getting this looked at should be top priority for your health. We will help you identify, heal, and reintroduce the foods that produce an inflammatory reaction. We will help you choose a testing method that makes sense for you. Whether it be a food elimination diet, an antibody test, or a cellular reactive test, we will help you identify what is causing your symptoms and provide the healing around it.

What are common food sensitivity symptoms?

Pain in the body – like joint pain; bowel movement irregularities – like IBS, diarrhea, constipation; mood; digestion – like heartburn, bloating or gas; skin irritations – like eczema, acne, canker sores, mouth blisters, rashes; headaches or migraines.

faq-02

What is a cleanse?

It’s a break from foods and habits that have caused our body stress, overload, and toxicity. Cleansing is encouraged and practiced in many cultures on a seasonal basis. A detox, is a healing time for our bodies. Having a toxic system makes us feel tired, irritable, crave unhealthy foods, tense, foggy-headed. We might experience migraines, headaches, achy joints, uncomfortable digestion, gas and bloating, heartburn and indigestion. Ultimately it leads to life threatening diseases. Let’s clean it up. Should I join the Curb Your Cravings Program?

It depends. If you don’t have any specific health concern and you’d like to just feel more vibrant, have more energy, lose a little pooch, sleep better, have a more varied diet… than absolutey YES! You’ll learn a way of eating that is right for you and you’ll be balancing your body for long-term, sustainable good health. Yes, you’ll lose weight… but what you’ll gain is more important. You’ll get the customization you need with one-on-one calls, shopping lists, easy and quick recipes, and most of all, a way to make this stick… even if you don’t cook. No more cravings and deprivation. No more need to diet. Join us!

Do you help people gain weight, too?

Yes, this is something I help clients with all the time. Eating nutrient-dense foods and gaining body awareness helps. Believe it or not, the approach that works for both gaining and losing weight is the same. If you are experiencing weight loss due to compromised digestion, we’ll work together to allow the body time to heal by eliminating the culprits, and then slowly introduce more nutrient-dense foods back into the diet to sustain a balanced and healthy weight.

How often should I have a bowel movement?

Most people find that once to twice a day feels about right. Our bowel movements should be well formed, easily passed, and medium color. If this doesn’t describe you, let’s chat. We would love to hear from you.

Not having a daily bowel movement is toxic to our systems and can be very serious. Having loose bowel movements is our bodies’ way of rejecting what we’re trying to feed it, and can also be very serious. What you’re eating and how you are taking care of yourself can be causing you these problems.

Is heartburn serious? Are over the counter and prescribed proton-pump inhibitors like Nexium, Prevacid, and Prilosec safe for me to take?

Heartburn is serious and can be a sign of an even more serious problem. Especially if the heartburn is occurring more than once a week. This is a sign that your digestive system is extremely irritated and needs your attention. Over-the-counter medications may make heartburn worse in the long run. Some people don’t heed the heartburn warning and find themselves with an ulcer… or many. At what point will you stop and listen to what your body is telling you? Let’s chat. We would love to hear from you. Contact us to learn about a real solution and not a Band-Aid.

Is working with a health coach okay if I’m pregnant?

Yes.

Do you recommend supplements?

Yes. We like to use data, like recent bloodwork to determine what deficiencies are present. Once we understand your unique needs, we’ll recommend any supplements to help you feel balanced, vibrant… simply put.. fantastic! We’ll help you get off the long list of self-prescribed, bottom-of-the-barrel supplements. Our focus is on helping you eat a more varied diet full of nutrient-dense whole foods. We have lots of favorite brands and will recommend the one’s that are best for you.

faq-03

Will I have to exercise?

We’ll decide together when and how to start incorporating more movement into your daily life. Exercise is a great tool to improve digestion, mood and physical well-being. We don’t advocate using exercise alone as a permanent weight loss tool. Our clients enjoy a balanced life without becoming dependent on exercise to maintain a healthy weight.

What if I’m already pretty healthy? Is there a program for me?

Yes! Being healthy is a journey and keeping focused on improvement is part of a healthy lifestyle. We tailor our work to meet you where you’re at and then take you to optimal health. We’ll guide you on what to maximize, what to minimize, and what to prioritize in order to experience optimal health.

In addition, if you’d like a group program, our Curb Your Cravings Program is another excellent option. It’s a community of like-minded busy people who don’t want to diet anymore, but want the support to achieve sustainable weight loss and good health.

I’m too busy to worry about my diet; can you help?

Yes. Our favorite clients are busy professionals who are “too busy” to take care of themselves. We meet you where you’re at and help you to slowly become a more balanced person. Read Grace’s story.

How much effort will this take?

That’s a great question. We only work with motivated people who are ready to look at how they can start prioritizing themselves and their health. You do all the work. We guide, support, and educate you in the process. Our most successful clients understand and adopt the idea that you get what you put into it and that if we want different results we will have to change. If you’re ready to do the work, we’d love to have you. Let’s chat. We would love to hear from you.
