How to Protect Your Skin

Read this article by Dr. Mark Hyman on how to remove toxins and protect your skin.

I’d like to give you some simple steps on how you can remove toxins and protect your skin. Did you know that what you put on your skin matters as much as what you eat?

Skin problems can be an indication that something is wrong within your body – like toxcity, gut imbalances, hormone inbalances, food allergies, leaky gut, low thyroid function and nutrient deficiencies.

Unfortunately, most people inflame the situation by treating it externally with harsh chemicals that can make you even more toxic than before.

Toxins can wreak havoc on your body. While some environmental toxins may be coming from outside sources hammering away at your body as an unwilling participant, others you may unwittingly be inviting in!

Here are some simple steps that you can start implementing today:

  1. Eat more whole foods (specifically organic items that haven’t been sprayed with pesticides).
  2. Replace your BPA plastics with stainless steel or glass instead, and look for BPA-free canned foods.
  3. Remove phthalates which are found in plastic food containers, and makeup projects that contain “fragrance or parfum.”
  4. Check your home for lead paint, radon and any other chemicals that may be lurking, and be sure to detox. (How? Exercise and sweating!)
  5. Use simple, natural cleaning products. Avoid anything containing glycol ethers.
  6. Check out EWG’s skin deep database to make sure what you are putting on your skin is safe.

So your challenge awaits you. Check the products you currently have and replace the ones that are ridden with toxins. Reduce your exposure. And figure out which brands are more trustworthy when it comes to your health.
