You can eat all the fat you want, including cheese, coconut oil, butter, and steak.<\/li><li>And if you can stick to it, you do lose weight. <em>(Keeping it off is another topic.)<br \/><br \/><\/em><\/li><\/ul><p><strong>While there are effective therapeutic uses for both styles of eating,<\/strong><\/p><ul><li>For the average person wanting to lose weight, neither diet is a long-term, health-promoting solution.<\/li><li>The goal, in my opinion, is to <strong>expand your diet<\/strong> and enjoy a variety of nutrient-dense foods that make your body sing.<br \/><br \/><\/li><\/ul><p>Some people do better with less refined carbohydrates, and some do better with more fats, but:<\/p><ul><li>Jumping on the \u201cketo\u201d or \u201cpaleo\u201d bandwagon is not the solution.<br \/><br \/><\/li><\/ul><p><strong>Sustainable, long-term solutions<\/strong> like:<\/p><ul><li>Drinking more water<\/li><li>Eating more vegetables, fresh fruit, and complex carbohydrates<\/li><li>Limiting snacking<br \/><br \/><\/li><\/ul><p>are much more effective because they\u2019re in tune with your unique metabolism.<\/p><p><strong>Learning about your body and how well it converts food into energy is great,<\/strong> and I can see how experimenting with some of the principles in the diet can help you do that.<\/p><p>However, the trend of fully committing to the \u201creligion\u201d of these diets won\u2019t work for most people\u2019s long-term weight loss goals.<\/p><p>I work with a lot of people who struggle with cravings, especially cravings for bread or sweets. One of the first things I focus on is that <strong>these cravings tell us something.<\/strong><\/p><p>Their body, for one reason or another, is really wanting quick and easy calories to digest.<\/p><ul><li>Rather than deny this need, we work on slowly supporting this by introducing more sweet-tasting foods or savory grains.<br \/><p>\u00a0<\/p><ul><li>This might include adding more fruits to their diet and trying whole grains like quinoa, rice, buckwheat, etc., instead of bread for a bit.<br \/><br \/><\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>We make sure they\u2019re eating enough protein, fat, and vegetables to be satiated.<br \/><br \/><\/li><\/ul><p>We support them in:<\/p><ul><li>Enjoying their food<\/li><li>Eating well<\/li><li>Moving away from restriction, calorie counting, and micro-managing their diet<\/li><\/ul><p>so they can fully savor each bite.<\/p><p>Once we\u2019ve balanced the diet, we balance the blood sugar, and the cravings start to go away.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-5be1fa4 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"5be1fa4\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-593490b\" data-id=\"593490b\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-6dcc8e5 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"6dcc8e5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you want to lose weight and wondering what diet is best for you, I encourage you to start with your unique body and what\u2019s missing.
